The Wound Nurse is responsible for assessing skin alterations, developing plans of care, implementing orders and treatments, and evaluating progress of specialized skin and wound conditions.

Responsibilities

•Evaluate new admissions, complete regular wound rounds, document status of wounds and ensure notification of physician and family of changes.
•Identify wound types, analyze trends, and provide education to nursing staff.
 

Qualifications

•Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program
•Prior to date of hire, must hold a current, valid RN or LPN, temporary RN or LPN licensure, or hold a compact RN or LPN license.
•CPR required.
•Wound Care Certification required.
• Minimum of one (1) year licensed nursing experience providing direct care to the aged/chronically ill required.
•Nursing experience in ostomy and continence strongly preferred.
•Nursing experience in a long term care/skilled nursing/transitional rehabilitation setting strongly preferred.
•Extensive knowledge of wound treatments to include, but not limited to: pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, surgical wounds, etc.
•Extensive knowledge of the wound care continuum that includes the treatment of the guest/patient through a comprehensive and holistic approach that includes nutritional management, pressure reduction, hazard identification, pain management, infection control and prevention.
